What's On Your Trick List?

Just about every time I go riding, I've got an idea of something I want to work on; a lot of the time that's some kind of trick. Over the summer just gone, I had a rather lengthy trick list, which unfortunately, was hardly dented at all. I guess I bit off more than I could chew.

I did make two tricks from that list, however. I landed a handful of clean backside 3s at the Chill FactorE, good enough to be proud of, but none were on film. I did record a sketchy effort, but you can't even see the landing. I also nailed the shifty-shifty at Halifax. That one is on film, but be camera work isn't great, the rider (me) is too small in the frame.

This film can be found in a recent, previous post.

So never mind about the lack of progress over the summer. I'm looking forward to Morzine, Avoriaz and the rest of the Portes Du Soleil. This time I'm gonna work with a more realistic list, just 3 tricks:

  • Backside 180 stalefish
  • Nose grab + any rotation except a frontside 180. Preferred options include fs 3 nose and bs 1 nose
  • Any 5. Feeling now is a backside 5, but we'll have to wait and see

So what's on your trick list? What are you working on this season?

I've been snowboarding for a year and a half now, so my trick list this year is fairly underwhelming compared to most people's.

1. I want to be able to do a full backside and frontside 360.

2. I want to do a large (to me, maybe 10+ft) cliff jump into powder.

3. I want to ride on pillows.

Hey Adam,

Like your list. One of the guys that works with me (called Adam too!) put this list together of his favourite tricks.

See what you think

Hey Allie,

I'd say your list is pretty impressive after a year and a half of shredding! ...although you do live in Vancouver, which isn't really fair :)

You're making a movie this year, right? I hope you get somethings from your list on film - it'd be great to see.

Tom,

wrong blog, I'm Gavin :) But I like some of the videos in that post, backside 180 is the best ;) You've probably seen it, but check out Bobby Meeks' footage from Lame and Afterlame, I like his style, and his favourite trick, I believe, is the BS 1. Go bobby!

My trick list is surprisingly low considering that this will be my fourteenth season.

I can do a bunch of grabs and confidently land decent sized jumps but I haven't really worked on spins. I'd like to do some 360s this year but we'll see what happens.

Also I want to improve my height in the pipe. I can get through a run in the pipe without falling, doing a bunch of grabs but no spins. However I don't have the height I want. I usually don't get much higher than the lip. I'd like to get three feet out and would be ecstatic if I could get six.

Go for the air in the pipe!

I think avoriaz usually has a really good pipe, so I'd like to put some more time in there. I'd like to get a spin in the pipe, that would be nice.

Not many of my friends that I ride with like the pipe that much, so I don't know how much I'll be hanging around it...

I think people get intimidated by the pipe, it looks harder than it really is.

The year I started riding pipe I was lucky, the pipe was setup so that there was the pipe and then on one side of it on the outside there was one rideable wall. That might sound confusing, basically it was deck, pipe wall, bottom, opposite pipe wall, deck, pipewall then bottom that was really the rest of the hill for a good 30-40 feet.

So I rode outside of the pipe just on the wall that merged with the rest of the hill. That was my frontside wall. So I focused on that and dialed it in before I went into the pipe fully and I didn't have to figure out both sides at once.

But anyways, pipe is fun, and quite rewarding you should start working on your friends now to convince them to give it a go :)

So for all of my crew that are reading this - I agree with sewn (Sam, right?) - we should spend some time lapping the pipe in avoriaz!
