Bern Helmets

I've been keeping an eye out for different helmets - especially those that have integrated audio. I think the helmets on offer from Bern have some pretty nice styling - and the basic models (those without audio or liners) are quite cheap - relative to pure snowboarding helmets. The one pictured here on the left is around £30.

I haven't tried one or, or even seen one in the flesh so I can't comment on how they feel. But, if you're in the market for a helmet I think they're worth a look... I kinda like the one with a peak!

The place to buy them in the UK seems to be StoreTwentyFour.

I've been looking for helmets as well and the Bern Baker was one of my first choices. However due to my huge noggin, I was unable to comfortably wear the largest size they had available.

If you happen to have a huge head, check out the R.E.D. Hi-Fi or Head Pro J. If you can fit, the K2 Crossfire was one of my favorites. Too bad it was just a little small for me.

Also worth remembering that these have not passed any sort of safety test for snowsports helmets and are only considered as hard hats.

Actually not quite true, the bern range comes in two different lining versions the "Brock" liner is lightweight, water resistant and cool but has not passed the safety standards, the "EPS" liner is the same as most other sk8 & snow lids and has passed the normal EU and US impact certifications.

so just make sure your getting the EPS version to protect your noggin'

Nice one! Thanks for the update.

True enough the EPS is the industry standard - but as it goes, although the HH Brock foam versions don't have the CE they have actually been proved by tests in the US to be better for your noggin in a high speed crash than the hard EPS liner, saving your neck by proving a softer cushion for you head, the Brock is multi impact too so yo get more use for your money!

Thanks for the updates! I'm still wearing my first lid that I bought around 4 years ago - I wonder now if it still provides good protection? It's gotta be better than nothing, right?

@"Brock" material
there was a recent test in a German Kayaking journal (Kanumagazin) where the Brock liner proved to be superior in terms of shock absorption to the materials used in all the other helmets (includind the Sweet helmets etc). They conducted a real lab test, not just dropping watermelons.
