R-Kade Skatepark, Redcar - Session 1

Mike, James and I were at the R-Kade Skatepark in Redcar, last Saturday morning. We did the 2-hour slot from 10 'till 12, taking some footage over the last 45 minutes or so. This was pretty much James' first time in a skatepark - and I was well impressed when he dropped in on a mini ramp for the first time, no problems!

Despite it being fairly quiet there was a good vibe in the park. Everyone friendly, no cliques etc. To be honest, at this stage I kinda like it being a little quiet: more room to practice, more room to get things wrong :-)

Anyway, I've put together a short sequence from what we took. I had fun putting this together; tried a few new things. The music is by Jack Johnson from his album In Between Dreams. It is without doubt one of my favourite albums. You should own it.

Hope you enjoy it!

Hi, we used to go on a Saturday morning for the first session, for exactly the same reason. I didn't check out many other sessions, but the 1st one on a Saturday morning was pretty empty...

However, I'd guess that at the moment with it being winter it's probably a little busier than the summer.

More recently we've been skating on a wednesday night... if you ever fancy meeting up just give us a shout (email)... although I'll probably not be skating at R-Kade until April time.

R-Kade skatepark has changed now....

It's had all new ramps built but the layout is terrible.... Barley appeals to us skateboearders anymore....

If its raining outside, it's raining inside the park....The roof Leaks, The floors and ramps are nearly always wet. You'd think before spending a small fortune on new ramps they'd atleast invest in some tubes of silicone to stop the leaky roof??....

The price has gone up from £5 per 2 hour session to £6.50 - Okay for a one off visit but for regulars its too expensive.

You are treat like a school kid with their rules and big warning signs everywhere. With staff telling you what you can and can't do in an unfriendly maoor while they are not playing on their mobile phones.

Urban Assault Course....
