Injury Update

I spent a little over two hours in the hospital this evening, waiting to see a doctore and then to get an x-ray. It's been around a week and a half since the shoulder-slam, and the end of the collarbone has been feeling weird.

To be clearer - towards the end of last week the regular pain/bruising/difficult-movement started to subside. But I've been left with a shoulder that's really painful in a few positions only; and it's a strange pain, like it's on the bone. Well, at least that what it feels like to me.

So I thought I'd get it checked out - just in case.

Well, nothing's broken or fractured which is good. Man, am I a bit of a hypochondriac or what? That's twice this year I've been for an x-ray to check on a snowboarding injury, and twice there's been nothing broken!

The doctor suggested that lump on the bone/around the bone could be a resurgence of a previous shoulder injury a few years ago; my left shoulder is gonna be weak in this area he thinks.

Still, it's on the mend, I've got a good range of movement, so I've just gotta wait for it to heal - then I can go shredding/skating again...

Hey Gavin

A friend of mine landed on his shoulder off a snowdome kicker a few seasons back. He went to see a physio several times and got a treatment plan worked out first to rehabilitate it, and then to strengthen it against future injury.

I don't know what the rehab was like... I guess a series of stretches. I know now he does something like 20 regular press ups and 20 wide-arm press ups when he gets up and before he goes to bed every day to prevent any reccurence.

Occasionally he'll feel a niggle if he stacks it snowboarding, but nothing major.

My own experience with physios has been pretty good too, so would recommend seeing one over a GP or hospital doc if you can. Or at least try looking up stretches and injury rehab online.

Hey mate,

thanks for the info! I'll give the press-ups a try. I too have had good results from physio, although the second from last visit was a waste, which kinda put me off. I'll see how it goes, bring in some excercises and stuff to strengthen it - and then hopefully next time I slam on a rail I won't notice the shoulder :)
